While working in Lynn the family lived briefly in Peabody, MA and then in Reading, MA for 32 years. He received a Masters Degree in Education from Northeastern while he was employed by GE. After retiring Gil and Helen returned to New York and lived in Hurley until 2008 when they both moved to Edgewood Retirement Community in North Andover, MA.

After returning to New York he served on the Board of the YMCA Of Kingston, the Board of the Senate House, the Board of the Hurley Historical Society and Museum, the Board of the Hurley Library and on the Board of the Senior Citizens of Hurley.

He was a collector of antiques and enjoyed researching the history of his home in Hurley. He also enjoyed researching the history of the Hurley/Kingston area. He loved participating in Hurley's Old Stone House Day and the Heritage Society's Corn and Craft Festival.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years Helen D. LeFevre, his son Douglas and his wife Leslie of Shelton, CT, and his daughter Linda and her husband David Anderson of North Andover, MA. Gil and Helen have one grandchild Scott Richter also of Shelton, CT.

Also among Gil's survivors are his sister Evamae McClenahan of Rhinebeck, NY and several nieces and nephews. His brother Hubert Richter of Kingston, NY predeceased him.
