Paul "Dean" Alexander

June 2, 1937 — May 30, 2025

Paul “Dean” Alexander passed away at home Friday, May 30, 2025. He was born on June 2, 1937, in Kingston, NY, son of the late Lester John and Mary Helen (Jones) Alexander.

He was a graduate of the first senior class of Onteora CSD in 1954. He served in the Army Reserves from 1957-1961.

Dean was a member of the Olivebridge United Methodist Church where he married the love of his life, Elisabeth Ann Lang on July 3, 1960, spending just shy of 55 years of marriage together until her passing in 2015.

He was employed by IBM, Montgomery Wards and retired as an auto mechanic from Sears in 1994 after 27 years and then drove school bus at James Hoyt and Tonche Transit.

Dean raced stock cars at local tracks from the late 50’s to mid 70’s earning him the nickname Fencie. He shared the love of this sport with his brothers Tommy, Terry and Billy and many friends. In 2023, he was inducted into the Accord Speedway Hall of Fame.

He enjoyed family time, playing softball on local teams, pinochle, dominoes and was an avid NASCAR fan. His quick wit and sharp humor kept us laughing through the years. He had the gift of giving unforgettable nicknames to family and friends - names that still spark smiles every time we say them.

Surviving are his children Sandy, Kim (Michael) Krickhahn, Paul Dene Jr. and Jenny (Gordon) Winne. Grandchildren Brittany (Nicholas) Burgher, George Maouris, Brandon Dean, Billy and Jamie Winne and Paul Dene Alexander III. Great-grandchildren Colden Dean and Willow Elisabeth Rose Burgher. Sisters Donna (Ralph) VanKleeck, Josie (Frank) Churchwell, Cindy Genther and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his wife Elisabeth, siblings Kay Heppner, Frankie, Evelyn Zanos, Jim, Tommy, Billy, and Terry (who passed just hours prior to Dean). Their service will be held together, two brothers taking their final victory lap after crossing life’s finish line side by side. The race is over but their legacy lives on in every turn of the track and cherished memories left behind.

Dean’s family would like to thank Hospice, the VA, Jessie, Melody and family for their help with caring for Dad. A special thanks to Tammy for providing Dad with full-time care, comfort and companionship in his final days with us.
