Joseph Saccoman

August 9, 1928 — May 26, 2025

Joseph D. Saccoman, 96, of Kingston, NY, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, May 26, 2025. Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Anthony G. and Mary (Carpino) Saccoman.

Joseph was married to the love of his life, the late Marguerite “Dee” (Castiglione) Saccoman, who predeceased him in 2021. They met in high school and their love story began a few years later at the St. Liberato’s Bazaar in East Kingston. They were married in 1950 and shared 71 wonderful years of marriage. Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather—his family was always his top priority.

A graduate of Kingston High School, Joe went on to earn degrees from Fordham University and Fordham Law School. His commitment to justice and public service shaped a remarkable legal career. A member of the NYS Bar Association since 1951, Joe practiced law in Kingston for many years and was a partner in the firm Saccoman & DiDonna, alongside his lifelong friend Louis DiDonna.

At the age of 33, Joseph became the youngest person ever elected Kingston City Judge, serving from 1962 to 1965. He later served as Administrator of the Assigned Counsel Plan in Ulster County. In 1981 he retired from private practice to become the Confidential Law Clerk for Supreme Court Justice Joseph P. Torraca. He continued his judicial service as a Judicial Hearing Officer for the NYS Unified Court System well into his 80s.

Joe was deeply involved in his community. He served on the College Council at SUNY New Paltz and the boards of directors for institutions, including Rondout National Bank. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Kingston Lions Club, where he served as President.

Together with Dee, Joe enjoyed a rich and active social life with family and friends. Their shared passions included sailing, tennis, skiing, bridge, dance, and travel. Joe also loved to golf and hunt and was a member of the Wiltwick Country Club and the Lake Katrine Rod & Gun Club. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His deep faith and devotion to family guided him throughout his life.

Joe is survived by his loving children: Linda Saccoman of Kingston, Donna Brosofske and her husband George of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Toni McCullom and her husband Ben of New Windsor, NY; his cherished grandchildren: Lea Demonia and Michael Brosofske; and four great-grandchildren: Jada, Anthony, Dakiem, and Demetrius. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his beloved wife and parents, Joe was predeceased by his sister, Rose Marie Hansen.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to his devoted caregivers, Margaret, Nash and Rebecca and to his special neighbors Joanne, Joe, and Rosemarie for their kindness and support throughout the years.
