Eva "Dorgene" Wingard
Feb. 28, 1927 - Sept. 22, 2021

Eva Dorgene Wingard, age 94, passed away peacefully in her home on September 22, 2021. She was born on February 28, 1927 in Rural Valley, Pennsylvania to Orman and Mabel Meyer. Raised on a beautiful farm with wonderful parents and five fun siblings, Dorgene loved to tell stories of her amazing childhood. She married the love of her life, Billie Wingard, on June 19, 1949. Several years later, their son, Dan Wingard, completed their happy family. Dorgene's greatest joy was being a mother. That was until her granddaughter, Sarah Rose Wingard, came along. Dorgene was happy to tell anyone that being a grandparent was even better than dessert.

Always a happy soul, Dorgene was not only known for her big smile and sunny disposition, but also her love for people. She shared and showed her love through food with her family, neighbors, and friends. Just taste her chocolate pudding or potato salad, and you would be asking for the recipe, which she happily shared. Dorgene was never one to sit down. In her eighties, she went sledding with her granddaughter, rode roller coasters with her daughter-in-law, and in her nineties went jet-skiing with her son.

Dorgene shared many pearls of wisdom acquired over her 94 years. Among them: ice cream is a health food, since it is really just frozen milk, leave your Christmas tree up all year but decorate it to match the current holiday, to catch a duck grab the back and tail, grass stains can be removed with baking soda and a few drops of hydrogen peroxide, grandchildren are always right, and chocolate goes with any meal.

Dorgene was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran church, spent many years in the Eastern Star, and was a member of the Apollo Garden Club. In later years, Dorgene volunteered at the Crosby school, Redeemer Lutheran church, and gave rides to seniors for ice cream or chocolate.

Dorgene is preceded in death by her husband, Billie Wingard; brothers, Wade, Don and William Meyer; and her brother-in-law, Neil Clark. She is survived by her sister, Elaine Hayes (Raymond); sister, Florence Clark; sister-in-law, Jean Meyer; sister-in-law, Pat Meyer; her son, Dan Wingard (Shari); her granddaughter, Sarah Rose Wingard; many wonderful nieces and nephews; extended family members, and friends. All of whom she loved and touched deeply. The family would especially like to thank Marcia for her loving care during the past few years.

A Rite of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 29, at 10:00AM, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, at 104 Wurts Street, Kingston, N.Y. with Rev. Thomas E. Taylor presiding.

Friends and family will be received on Friday, October 1, from 3 - 6 pm at Carson Boyer Funeral Home, 724 Main St., Rural Valley, Pa. The funeral service will take place at Carson Boyer Funeral Home on Saturday, October 2, at 11am followed by final interment at Harkelroad Cemetery, in Rural Valley.
