ROBERT STUART ALLEN
AKA Bob/ Stuart
May 16, 1950 - December 30, 2020

Beginning from his youth growing up in Harlem and the South Bronx, Bob had the desire for knowledge and self discipline. He became a young Marine Cadet at age 13 and at age 17 served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1967-1971. He was a US Marine Combat Veteran/ R.V.N. in Vietnam 1969-1970.

In the mid 1970's Bob settled in Ulster County. Over the last many decades he offered his expertise as a Chimney Sweep, Yoga student/teacher, Acupuncturist, Asian Medical Practitioner, QiGong specialist, Martial Arts blackbelt instructor (Aikido and Guided Chaos Adaptive Defense), Tango dancer, and for the past fifteen years, Direct Service Professional at the Anderson School.

Bob lived a quiet, studious, deliberate life as a lifelong learner and healer and gave to others his honesty, loyalty, guidance, and protection. Health issues and social losses during this pandemic greatly impacted him. He lived and died as a warrior.

Bob is survived and loved by his daughter Willow May Allen-Joffee, sister Lori Lytle and her husband Don, Judy Joffee and her husband Bob Hughes, grandson Sebastian Allen Joffee-Pereira and granddaughter Camila Rose Azcurrain-Joffee. He will be missed by Rick and Theresa Regan, Len and Hilary Kobrinsky, Bill Leicht, Carol Hanisch, Vicente Rubio, John Perkins, Raji Nevin, Joe Martarano, Joe Kellar, Dave Randel, and many other friends and colleagues. He is so greatly missed.

Sharing his words: "I lived the warrior's life, a good life, with no regrets. I have been a good father, US Marine, homeowner, business owner, lifetime martial artist and lifelong student practitioner of healing arts and life-affirming philosophies. I have been very happy here and have lived a full vibrant life of family and friends and thank you all."

One of Bob's favorite songs was "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" and he requested to be remembered as a scholar, warrior and friend.

I rented a room in Robert's home that was behind the diner in Saugerties in 1985. I had just relocated to the Hudson Valley and Robert made the transition easy for me. He was so generous with whatever he could give. He was excited to show us his new electroacupuncture device. I was so intrigued with this man I hardly knew but seemed so strong and yet with his huge hands could work magic with these tiny needles. His smile put you at ease. It was because of his demanor and skill that I asked him in October of1995 to help me through a long and difficult labor with my second child. It was his acupuncture and energy work and his calming presence that enabled me to successfully deliver my daughter without another c-section. He was a gift to us back then.
I have not kept in touch with him and regret that. I only just found out of his passing. I send my deepest condolences to his family and friends and may his peaceful warrior ways prevail.

Robert worked at Anderson Center for Autism for 15 years. The last 10 of them at the Wurtemburg IRA. Robert managed the overnight position caring for the individuals who reside at the home. He was a staple for the house and the men that he cared for loved and respected him. He was always smiling and he cared about everybody. His laughter was infectious and he went out of his way to make everybody feel at home. He will be missed by everybody and his loss leaves a tremendous impact on our lives. We think of him everyday and we love sharing stories about him. We feel comfort in knowing that he is at peace. Love from his Anderson family.

I am very sad to hear of his loss. Stuart was a great contributor to Woodstock Aikido and one of its founders. He will be greatly missed.

When thinking about Bob over the past 40+ years, we remember his easy style, his generous spirit, his warm smile and hearty laugh. He had great love for his family and friends, was devoted to ways of the warrior, and had many diverse and impressive interests. As he now resides in Spirit, he will live in our hearts always.

My dad was a gentle, wise, complex and loving person. He valued his varied communities deeply and was constantly learning and engaging in his life in meaningful ways. He was very accepting of others and I was really looking forward to the way that our relationship was evolving . His death came as a complete shock to me and I am trying to regroup and continue to develop a relationship with him in the spiritual. I know that I still have much to learn about him and from him and will keep him present in my heart and actions throughout my lifetime. Thank you to his friends who have show their love and support during this incredibly sad and grief filled time. I love you dad!

I’m so very sorry to learn of Robert’s passing.
What a magnificent human being. Robert came to Woodstock Tango for his first tango lessons, and his generosity, kindness, charm, and good-natured captured us all. That was more than 15 years ago. He was so nurturing to new dancers and appreciative of the community. I loved dancing with him and he will have a place in our hearts always. Rest in Peace Sweet Robert. You are sorely missed. Deepest condolences to family and friends. With love, Ilene Marder Hinchey (founder, Woodstock Tango)❤️🌹🎶

I had the incredibly good fortune to meet Bob at the dojo in Saugerties. In my 62 years on this earth I can honestly say I have never met anyone kinder with a smile that was sincere and shared the light of his heart and soul. My memories will always be of his wonderful smile and sincerity of sharing his life with us. He was wonderful to practice with and his strength of spirit was in everything he did. Remember his hat for chimney cleaning ? He was an adorable and loving friend and man, and I was blessed to know him for that short time. The angels will love him even more than we did and we all loved him dearly! Blessed to experience his friendship, Susan Mercer

My dear friend Robert was a gentle giant. His heart was huge and giving. His laugh was almost childlike and very contagious as was his smile. He was a warrior and lived his life as a warrior. He was a kind hearted human being and I loved him very much. We had so many deep and meaningful conversations and also fun and laughter filled ones too. I will miss him so much. I wish him a Blissful, Light filled journey back to be who we all truly are ~ at the core! You are FREE my friend! Fly high!!!!
