William A. McCabe

William A. "Bill" McCabe, 72, of Port Ewen, died Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Benedictine Hospital, after a brief illness. He was born March 9, 1940 in Kingston, the son of the late William A. McCabe and Cornelia Rafferty Galbreth.

Bill was the husband of Barbara Auringer McCabe, they wed on November 18, 1961, they just celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary.

A graduate of Kingston High School, Class of 1957, he served in the US Navy, in the Pacific area on the USS Rehoboth from 1958 - 1961.

He spent his working career in the meat business, and had been co owner of Circle M Beef Company in Poughkeepsie. He had also worked at Siller Beef Company and Newburgh Packing.

He was an active parishioner of Presentation Roman Catholic Church in Port Ewen, currently serving as president of the parish council, he was an adorer at the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel at Immaculate Conception RC Church, was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. An avid sportsman, he loved basketball, having played in YMCA league and the over 30 league, he coached baseball and basketball in the Port Ewen Athletic League; he also enjoyed horse racing and golf. He loved his family, friends and his faith.

In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by his son, Sean McCabe and his wife Laura of Port Ewen, grandchildren, Michael, Marley, Hope and Gemma McCabe of Port Ewen, a brother Edward Galbreth of San Francisco, and a sister Elizabeth Strickland of West Hurley, several sisters in law and brothers in laws, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Gay Sammons.

Entrusted to the care of Eric Keyser, Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. The procession will form at the funeral home on Thursday at 9 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Presentation R.C. Church, at 10 a.m. Father Carl Johnson, celebrant. Burial in St. Peter's Cemetery, Kingston.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
