Valerie Jane Strokes

Valerie Jane Strokes, 69, passed away June 13, 2026, after a brave and deliberate years-long battle with multiple myeloma, a treatable blood and bone cancer. She was born May 5, 1957, in Kingston, NY to the late Melford A. Strokes Jr. and Freda Boice Strokes.

Val graduated from Kingston High School and began working at the Kingston City Lab until its closure; she then took on a totally different role working at Mother Earth in the produce department until her retirement. Val made many long lasting friendships during her life's journeys, including her acquaintances she met at the medical facilities she visited over the past year. Val loved the summer months. She took pride in maintaining her yard and flowers. Aunt Val played a nurturing role in her niece and nephews lives.

She is survived by her loving sisters, Freda and Cindy Strokes of Kingston, her brother, Melford C. "Manny" and his wife Tina of Mount Marion, NY, her niece, Megan Macedonia and her husband Michael of Peekskill, NY, her nephews, Jonathan and Joshua of Kingston, and her "Great" nephew Braedan Augustus Macedonia of Peekskill. Many cousins and beloved friends also survive.

Due to her wishes there will be no services. In Val's memory plant some flowers or a shrub, light a candle and say a prayer for peace and good health.
