Susan Jane Kouhoupt

Susan J. (Weir) Kouhoupt, 73, of Kingston, NY, passed away Friday, March 20, 2026 at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was born on February 16, 1953 in Kingston, NY, daughter of the late Richard and Joan (Schenkewitz) Weir.

She grew up in Tillson, NY, and attended Kingston City Schools, graduating in 1971. She married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth F. Kouhoupt, in 1973. She worked for many years at MetLife and GHI/Emblem Health. Susan had a passion for flowers and also worked as a floral designer for Burgevin Florist in Kingston and Meadowscent in New Paltz. She enjoyed using her creativity to design her beautiful window boxes and gardens. She got a lot of pleasure out of watching the variety of birds that visited daily. She loved her time at the beach where she would collect seashells and sea glass. Her annual summer family vacations to Wildwood, NJ, and Lake George were some of her happiest times, along with floating around in her pool.

Susan is survived by her loving husband of 52 years Kenneth F. Kouhoupt of Kingston, her daughter, Kristen Phillips and her husband Jeffery of Glenmont, and her grandsons, Brady and Brandon Phillips. Her grandsons were her life, she attended all of their school and sporting events and especially loved spoiling them whenever she had the chance. Susan is also survived by her sister, Linda Greenlese and her husband Scott of Shokan; sisters-in-law Karen Aubel and her husband Thomas of Ulster Park, Kim Hart and her husband Jeremiah of North Carolina; brothers-in-law Kevin Kouhoupt and his wife Kim of Port Ewen, and Keith Kouhoupt and Melissa Morgan of Kingston; many nieces and nephews, as well as her dear friends who helped her through her challenging journey.

The family would like to thank her organ donor, David, who blessed Susan with five more years of life. They would also like to thank the amazing caregivers at Memorial Sloan Kettering in NYC and Bergen, Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO, and Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY.

Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 from 4pm to 8pm. The funeral service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Kingston.
