Stanley Plasker

d. April 19, 2017

Stanley Plasker, 84, passed at HealthAlliance Hospital Broadway Campus on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 with his daughter beside him. Mr. Plasker is survived by his caring son and his wife, Matthew and Nancy Ann Plasker of Natick MA., devoted daughter Rebecca Plasker of Hurley and his dear grandchildren, Hannah Lea Plasker, Samantha Brett Plasker and Max Daniel Plasker of Natick, MA. and many loving cousins. He is the son of the late Sarah (Segal) Plasker and the late Max Plasker of Brooklyn. He is predeceased by his wife, Gloria (Davidowitz) Plasker. Stan was born in Brooklyn, NY. After meeting as camp counselors at Camp Moodna in the Catskills, he and Gloria married in 1954. He was blessed to have loved his wife even more after 61 years of marriage than on the day they married. One of his favorite things to do was tell friends and strangers about all the qualities that made his wife so special. Upon moving to Hurley, the couple welcomed their children, Matthew and Rebecca into their home. He was devoted to his wife and family. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree at City College of New York (CCNY) and continued his education with a Master of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and Statistical Quality Control from Stevens Institute of Technology. Stan served in the US Army from 1955 1957, stationed at Fort Benning, GA. He and Gloria moved to Kingston in 1957 then relocated to Hurley in 1960. Employed by IBM for 35 years in quality engineering, he was a manager at IBM and was proud to work for IBM. He worked in Kingston and Poughkeepsie, with special assignments in White Plains, NY, San Jos, CA, Raleigh, NC, and Austin, TX. He and Gloria were members of Congregation Ahavath Israel since 1959. Stan served for many years with distinction as treasurer, was a valued member of the Board of Trustees and a beloved member of the synagogue. Stan loved Broadway show tunes and musicals, dancing with his wife Gloria, history, following the New York Giants, reading the NY Times and figuring out creative ways to fix difficult things. He was a wonderful storyteller and loved talking and joking with friends, family and strangers. Soon after moving to Ulster County, Stan and his wife formed a bridge club with dear friends that met for over 50 years. He remained close to nursery school and kindergarten friends. A tower of strength and determination, his friends and family counted on him to be there for them when they were in need. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 12:00 noon, at Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Avenue, with Cantor Devorah Gartner officiating.
