Stanley H Kern

Stanley H Kern, 82, of Athens, formerly of Kingston, died Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Kingston Hospital, Kingston. He was born August 29, 1929 in Poughkeepsie, the son of the late Charles and Frances Mac Auley Kern. Stan was the husband of the late Donna Modjeska Kern.

A veteran of the US Marine Corps, he served for 4 years during the Korean War and was the recipient of the Purple Heart.. A graduate of SUNY New Paltz, he also attended Syracuse University. He began his career as a teacher in the Poughkeepsie School District, and then was employed by NYS United Teachers Association for many years.

He had been councilmen in the Town of Ulster for many years, had served on Ulster County Planning Board, was a member of Sawkill Fire Department; Hidden Valley Rod and Gun Club, Sawkill,
Life member of the NRA and B.A.S.S.; a member of National Fishing Club and National Hunting Club
and had been Park Director at Zena Rec;

Stanley is survived by his children Brian S. Kern, Heather Kennedy, Jeffrey Kern, and Justin Kern; he was predeceased by a daughter Patricia Kern.
