Spyros Pappas

Spyros Pappas, 94, of Kingston, NY, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston. He was the eldest of five siblings; born on June 15, 1928, to Evangelos and Gianoulla (Kondilis) Papadopoulos.

At an early age he served in the military in Greece. He moved to America on February 14, 1955. Valentine’s Day was always a special day for him and he always bought his wife chocolates and flowers, without fail. Spyros was married to his loving wife of 62 years, Panagiota “Yota” Pappas, they wed August 28, 1960 in Agrinion, Greece.

Spyros first worked in several restaurants in New York City before moving to Kingston in 1962. He worked at the Park Diner for several years before he and Yota purchased Dallas Hot Wieners on North Front Street in Kingston.

He enjoyed gardening and lovingly tended to his flowers and potted fruit trees. He took courses in electronics and enjoyed repairing and building things. He loved taking family photos and videos. Spyros was an active member of St George Greek Orthodox Church, serving on the board. He was also a member of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association.

Spyros is survived by his wife, Yota, his daughter, Joan (Denni) Demosthenes, his son, Evangelos Pappas, his grandchildren, George, Peter, and Christina Demosthenes, two surviving sisters in Greece, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other dear family members.

Arrangements are entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, Kingston, NY. Friends and family may visit at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 294 Greenkill Ave., Kingston, NY 12401, on Friday January 27, 2023 from 10:30am to 11:30am with the funeral service taking place at 11:30am. Burial will follow in Montrepose Cemetery, Kingston, NY.
