Sandra Lee Fischer

Sandra “Sandy” Lee Fischer, 82, of West Shokan, New York, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, New York. Born on January 23, 1944, in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Doris Palmer.

Sandy dedicated many years of her life to serving others as an EMT, a role she truly loved. Through her volunteer work as the first Captain of the West Hurley Rescue Squad and with Olive First Aid, she received numerous awards and certificates of recognition for her unwavering commitment to emergency services and her community. She also worked for many years as a school bus monitor with the Onteora School District, where she compassionately assisted children with wheelchairs and other special needs. Sandy was a courageous and dependable presence in the lives of many, always showing up in times of need with strength, resilience, and a deeply caring spirit.

Outside of her service to others, Sandy found joy in quilting, camping, baking, and a wide variety of crafts. She was an avid reader and took great pride in decorating her landscape. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and close friends. Her home was always open, her welcome always warm, and she never let anyone leave without saying, “Come again!”

Sandy is survived by her loving husband, Richard; her children, Lisa Fisher and Brian (Kalyn) Fisher; her grandchildren, Jon Hoffman, Kyle Fisher, and Alayna Fisher; her great-grandchildren, Roewyn, Quillan, and Faye Hoffman; her sister, Sarah Koch; her brother, Ralph (Mary) Butler; sister-in-law Ellen “Jo” Barrick and several nieces and nephews.

A life so devoted to helping others leaves a lasting legacy of compassion and kindness that will not be forgotten.
