On December 15, 2025 Ruth W. Breland passed away peacefully. She had been a resident at Golden Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kingston, New York for the past four years. She is survived by her son Scott Clugstone and his husband Wallace Norman who reside in Woodstock, New York.
Born March 20, 1930 Ruth grew up in Gloversville NY. Her early talent in music and singing remained with her throughout her life. While married to James Clugstone she gave birth to two sons, Scott and Joel. Joel died in 2012 from pancreatic cancer.
In 1972 Ruth met Fritz Breland who resided in Moss Point, Mississippi. Approximately one year later Ruth was married to Fritz and relocated to Mississippi. They enjoyed a long marriage together until Fritz passed in 2008. Ruth especially enjoyed spending time with the entire Breland family.
Ruth sang the soprano solos often with church and community choirs throughout her life. She created a program of the music of Stephen Foster and performed this program in community programs and churches while living in Mississippi.
In accordance with her wishes Ruth was cremated. In the spring her ashes will be interred in the columbarium at St. Gregory's Episcopal Church in Woodstock.
