Robert J. Scheffel, 89, of Kingston, NY, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Golden Hill Nursing & Rehab Center in Kingston, NY. He was born on March 11, 1934 in Kingston, NY, son of the late Wilfred and Margaret (Kelder) Scheffel.
He was married to his loving wife of 69 years, Helen (Barnum) Scheffel. They wed on February 6, 1954. He was a devoted and caring father and grandfather, with an amazing sense of humor. Bob was a Kingston High School graduate, class of 1952. He later worked at Hildebrandts Boat Yard in Connelly before working for IBM for over 37 years. He was a parishioner of St. Mary's RC Church.
Bob enjoyed watching sports, especially the NY Giants (never missed a game), NY Yankees, and NY Knicks. He also spent many hours helping his wife with various projects at the Reformed Church of the Comforter, where she was a member and often volunteered. Bob was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Scheffel of Kingston, his sister, Marilyn Rienzo of Kingston, his children, Robert S. Scheffel and his wife Jie of Ridgefield, CT, David M. Scheffel and his wife Deborah of Saratoga, NY, and James A. Scheffel and his wife Betsy of Kingston, NY, his grandchildren, Helena Marchetti, Lauren Fahnrenkopf, William Scheffel, Michelle Scheffel, Rebecca Scheffel, Nevaeh Scheffel, Geoffrey Smith, and Ashley Haile, his great grandchildren, Aria Marchetti, Wyatt Marchetti, Emilia Fahnrenkopf, Geoffrey Smith, Jr., Benjamin Smith, Isla Fahnrenkopf, and Wesley Fahrenkoph, as well as many nieces, nephews, other dear family members, and an incredible group of lifelong friends. The family would like to thank the staff of Golden Hill S2 for the care and love they provided to Bob.
Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Thursday June 1, 2023 from 4pm to 7pm. The funeral procession will form on Friday June 2, 2023 at 8:45am and will proceed to St. Mary’s RC Church, 160 Broadway, Kingston, NY 12401 where at 10am a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
