Robert H. Braun, formerly of Shokan, N.Y. passed away peacefully on the morning of January 8, 2024 at Village at Victory Lakes Skilled Nursing Center, Lindenhurst, IL. He was 90.
Robert (Bob) was the loved husband of the late Lucille (Austin) Braun; dearest father of Robert (Mary), Lauralee (Steve) Bliss, Deanne Braun (fiancé Steve Chiovari) and Andrea (Joseph) Kessler; loving grandfather to six grandchildren; brother of Edwin (the late Charlotte) Braun, the late James, the late Francis, Judith (the late Charles) Perl; and the late Richard (Hilda); also survived by nieces and nephews.
Bob was born May 14, 1933 to Edwin and Alice Braun in Lancaster, N.Y. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1951. He earned his BS in Industrial Arts Education from State University of New York (SUNY) Buffalo in 1955 and his Masters in Secondary School Administration from SUNY Albany in 1960. Bob was passionately dedicated to the education profession for 30 years: as secondary school teacher; as administrator in Vocational Education in Ulster County; as adjunct professor, SUNY Utica-Rome and SUNY Oswego; and as N.Y.S. Eastern Regional Coordinator for the Department of Vocational Technical Teacher Education for 24 counties. He retired in 1990, having earned four meritorious service awards and was elevated to Emeritus standing by SUNY for outstanding service.
Very active and dedicated to St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, Woodstock, NY, Bob served numerous roles and positions, including Minister of the Secular Franciscan Order. A member of Knights of Columbus for 45 years, Bob served as Grand Knight of Fr. Ginet Council 4369, Phoenicia, N.Y. and in other roles. In 2007, Bob was awarded an Honorary Lifetime Membership by the Supreme Council, K. of C., for his faithful service.
Bob was a very devoted husband and father. He enjoyed camping and hiking; his great joy was to take his family each summer on camping trips all over the United States. He enjoyed house and yard improvement projects and baking bread, pies, cakes. He brought joy to everyone he knew with his jokes, ready smile, and phenomenal sense of humor. Bob was admired and loved by his family, friends, and co-workers. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Entrusted to the care of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston, NY 12401 where family and friends may visit on Friday January 19, 2024 from 4pm to 7pm. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Saturday January 20, 2024 at 10am. Entombment will follow in Wiltwyck Cemetery Mausoleum.
