Nancy Parsons

Kingston

Nancy Parsons, 86, of Kingston, NY entered into rest peacefully on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Ten Broeck Commons in Lake Katrine, NY. She was born on June 10, 1937 in Kingston, NY and was the daughter of the late Edward Lee and Bess Lee (Shultis).

She started her education in a 2room schoolhouse in Chichester NY where she grew up. She then attended Tannersville – Hunter HS until the opening of Onteora HS from where she graduated.

Her professional career included Treasurer of the Shandaken Rural Cemetery for 30+ years. She worked for the Ulster County Department of Social Services for 25 years and retired in 2002. Nancy also owned and operated a bed and breakfast for many years while working for the county. Her fondest and most rewarding job was in the Foster Grandparent Program at Chambers School. She was loved by both staff and students alike for over 17 years. During the summers when she was off from the Foster Grandparent Program, she worked for the Ulster County Ward of Tourism where she enjoyed guiding tours and helping people explore the Hudson Valley.

Nancy instilled a love of traveling to her children and even more to her grandchildren, especially to the beach. She also enjoyed reading, doing puzzles and knitting. Her most prized activity was spending time with her grandchildren, attending many of their activities and taking pictures. She was also a Cub Scout Den mother. She also enjoyed baking and coloring easter eggs with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Ulster County Democratic Committee and enjoyed going to events with her great friend Edward Palladino (deceased).

She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Nancy is survived by her children, Cynthia (Gary) Castle of Morristown, NY, Alan (Josephine) Parsons of Accord, NY, Karen (Bill) Wynkoop of Kingston, her grandchildren, Dan Parsons, Tabatha Parsons, Billy (Andrea) Wynkoop, Alex (Gwen) Wynkoop, Olivia Castle (John), and Garrett Castle, her great grandchildren, Jaylah and Milano and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her beloved brother, Edward Lee of Miami.

Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 10am with a funeral service taking place at 11am. A graveside service will follow in Mt. Marion Cemetery, Mt. Marion, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in Nancy's name can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.StJude.org.
