Mary M. Schirick, 86, of Rock Hill died Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Orange Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
Born in Kingston, NY she was a daughter of the late John & Ethel Marsh Fallon.
She grew up in Kingston and the Town of Ulster with her late sister Ruth and brother John. She attended Kingston schools, and worked as a local Operator for New York Telephone Company during World War II. She married George F. Schirick in 1947 and lived in Kingston for 25 years.
While living in Kingston she developed a passion for gardening helping her mother-in-law nurture a Rose Garden. In Liberty she was a member of the Garden Club and served as President. She also enjoyed flower arranging particularly the Japanese style known as Ikebana. While in Liberty she was an active member of the Community General Hospital Auxiliary.
Mary loved to play golf, especially with George. They belonged to golf clubs in Kingston and Liberty and enjoyed many golf vacations. In 1992, Mary and George retired and moved to western North Carolina where they lived together until George passed away in 2009. Mary and George were devoted to each other and were married for 62 years.
Mary was a loving daughter, sister, spouse, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be remembered for her caring, affectionate attitude toward family and friends, and her inner strength and resilient spirit coping with her long illness. She will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by a son, Edward A. Schirick, and daughter-in-law Cathleen M. Schirick, of Rock Hill a brother, John Fallon of Bloomington, NY three grandchildren, Scott and his spouse Liza of Fair Haven, NJ, Michael of Brooklyn, NY, and Elizabeth and her fiance Jon Miranda of Boston, MA, and two great grandchildren Henry and Teddy. One niece and one nephew also survive.
Reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. Kingston, NY visitation will be on Monday, November 4, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
A funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon at the funeral home.
Interment will be private.
