Lynn Mulvaney

November 3, 1925 — December 30, 2023

Lynn (Marilyn) Mulvaney (98) passed away on December 30, 2023 surrounded by family in New Bern, North Carolina. She was born in Brooklyn, NY, on November 3, 1925 to Frederick W. Berndt and Helen (Nash) Berndt. She attended Oceanside High School and graduated from SUNY Farmingdale with a degree n Horticulture. During that period, she also illustrated a published textbook on entomology.

In 1946 she opened a flower shop in Huntington, Long Island, a business that remained for more than 50 years. A second career in journalism followed during which she served as manager of the Tully Independent, as a reporter for the Cortland Standard, a feature writer for the Albany Times Union and later as a staff reporter for the Daily Freeman, Kingston, NY. She was the recipient of several New York State and area journalism awards include the NYS Medical Society’s 1964 competition.

She has served on the boards of Zonta Club of Kingston, Benedictine Hospital Auxiliary, VP of the Ulster County Historical Society, Ulster County Council of Girl Scouts, Ulster County Art Association, VP and Treasurer of Ulster County Women’s Republican Club and a member of the Ulster County Republican Executive Committee.  She was an alternate delegate to the 1996 GOP convention.

Lynn is survived by her children, Scott (Trish) Swan; Deborah (Arthur Thinguldstad) Swan; Maryellen (Walter) Purhamus; Keith Swan (Sue Hostig). She has seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her husband, Francis E. Mulvaney predeceases her.
