Marilyn Bouton

August 19, 1931 — September 15, 2023

R. Marilyn (Burke) Bouton passed away at her home in Kingston on Friday, September 15, 2023. Born August 19, 1931 in Milton, MA, she was the daughter of Williard A. and Ruth C. (Leatherbee) Burke of Kingston, NY. She maintained a deep appreciation and affection for Milton throughout her life.

Marilyn graduated from Kingston High School, and the University of Albany, ultimately completing her graduate work at SUNY New Paltz.

She was a long-time resident of Kingston, spending most of her life there.  Marilyn had fond memories of her time at KHS, whether that was as a student making life-long friends, an avid sports fan, especially watching her father coach KHS football to many victories, and later as a long-term teacher of Business Math and Business Law to multiple generations of students.

She is survived by her three children: Martha Tetrault (John), Eric Bouton, and Jill Bouton, for whom she was a loving mother, strong role model and dear friend.  Marilyn was a generous, supportive grandmother to Erica Bouton, Emily Bouton and Isabel Kaufman, and three great grandchildren: Tyler Hayes, Dana Taylor and Daniel Tetrault.

Marilyn was a woman of many and wide-ranging interests.  She loved her city, Kingston, its history, and history broadly. One of her greatest pleasures was travel, particularly with her children.  Her love of history allowed her to be both a traveler and a student wherever she visited. She was a committed advocate and active supporter for a variety of environmental organizations.  The health of the Hudson River was a particular focus.  As the daughter of a coach, she was a lifelong sports enthusiast, whether at the high school, college, or professional level.

She will be terribly missed.  The family is planning a private celebration of her life. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Willard A. Burke Memorial Scholarship by mailing a check to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY.
