Kenneth A. Ackert died suddenly on Thursday July 11, 2013 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Monticello, NY. He was born in Kingston on April 9, 1953 and was the son of Robert and Virginia (Brower) Ackert of Kingston.
He was a graduate of Kingston High School in 1971 and the went on to graduate from the Fort Schuyler Maritime College in 1975. He was employed by the Virginia Power Company and was assigned as a Technical Advisor to open the North Anna Nuclear Plant. He was then hired by the United Energy Servcies as a Contract Nuclear Engineer and served in this capacity for 23 years, where he was assigned to serve as engineer at start up and Technical Writer for procedures and test operations.
He left to take care of his parents. He loved life and was always happy and willing to drive his parents to Florida and back. For the last two months he remained here to care for them.
In addition tohis parents, he is survived by his brother David Ackert of Kissimmee, Fl. His daughter Erin Ackert and four beautiful grandchildren Trinity, Trevor, Tristan and Brock all of Palmyra, VA
He had been a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout, he loved animals, watching tubing on the Esopus and watching free falling from airplanes in Gardiner, he also enjoyed collecting antiques, traveling across the country, having twice gone to England with his brother.
A Rememberance service will be held at Ivan's Rondout Golf Course restaurant, Accord, on Wednesday July 17 at 4 pm.
