Joseph H. Blaha, 92, of Ulster Park, NY, passed away at home on Thursday, December 2, 2021. He was born in the Bronx, NY, son of the late Joseph and Frieda (Schmidt) Blaha. The family moved to the farm in Ulster Park in 1942. Joseph attended school in St Remy where he met his wife, Jennie (Emberson) Blaha and graduated from Kingston High School. They were wed in 1951 and built their home on the farm parcel where they raised their family and lived together until Jennie passed away in 2017.
Joseph began working at age 12 on the family egg farm. He was a milkman, delivering products for Dairylea Milk, until he became a lineman for the NY Telephone Company and later an Installer/Repairman placed at IBM. He retired from Verizon in 1994.
As a young man Joseph enjoyed fishing and hunting with friends and family. He loved nature, his vegetable garden and tinkering. He was a true "handyman" with interests in repair and maintenance of anything he could get his hands on. Joseph had numerous certificates of training in a wide variety of machines, electronics and woodworking that he put to good use at home or anyone needing his help. Joseph was a lifelong member and supporter of the St Remy Reformed Church, serving as a Deacon for many years.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Blaha) Gorman and husband James, his son Frank Blaha and wife Doris, son Robert Blaha and wife Heather Lawson. His grandchildren, James Gorman and wife Christine, Meaghan Gorman, Colin Gorman and wife Grace, Marissa Blaha and Cassie Blaha. His great-grandchildren, Mariandra and Maygan Blaha-Carney, Marcas Blaha, Octavia Vladich, Luke and Thomas Gorman as well as many nieces and nephews near and far.
Joseph is preceded in death by his son Joseph Blaha, his sisters Lorraine Holden and Adelaide Lynch.
Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 216 Broadway, Port Ewen, NY 12466, where family and friends may visit on Friday, December 10, 2021 from 4pm to 7pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 11am with burial following in St. Remy Rural Cemetery.
