John Albert More, 90, of the Town of Ulster since 1966, and formerly of Oneonta, NY, died on January 15, 2026, at Golden Hill Rehabilitation Center, Kingston, NY.
He was the son of Herbert R. More and Marjorie (Mix) More and graduated from Oneonta High School in 1953. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration from Thomas S. Clarkson Memorial College of Technology, Potsdam, NY, in 1957. John was a charter member of the Zeta Nu fraternity.
John served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1961 as a Supply Corps Officer aboard the USS Kearsarge (CV-33). From 1962 to 1966 he worked for ITT Data Systems, where he met and married Marilyn Baker of Ramsey, NJ. After moving to Kingston, NY, in 1966, John was employed by Kingston Cablevision, Ferroxcube in 1968 and National Micronetics in 1975. Starting in 1985 he enjoyed driving school buses for Kingston High School sports teams.
John was known for helping others. He was a self-proclaimed “Road Pilot.” He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, genealogy, Sudoku, milk and cookies.
John is survived by his wife Marilyn (Baker) More; sons Richard and wife Catherine (Thyne), Robert and wife Kelly (Herholz), Stephen and wife Kelly (Dux); 8 grandchildren—Kevin, Brian, Amy, Brandon, Matthew, Makenna, Allison More Hulbert, and Patrick.
Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401. A memorial service will be held at the Hurley Reformed Church, Hurley, NY, on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Hurley Cemetery. If you wish to make a memorial donation, John’s favorite charities were Mercy Ships and Doctors Without Borders.
