Joan M. Sleight, 71, of Port Ewen, died Tuesday afternoon, June 26, 2012 at Benedictine Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with Ovarian Cancer.
She was born May 6, 1941 in Syracuse, NY the daughter of the late Paul and Ruth Cramer Loope.
Joan was a graduate of Nedro High School and State University of New York at Canton. She had been a faithful and dedicated employee of the Benedictine Hospital for 35 years as Medical Staff Coordinator.
Over Joan's tenure at Benedictine, and especially during her battle with cancer, the kindness and love shown by the Sisters of Benedictine, her fellow employees and the oncology unit will be forever remembered.
Joan was a very active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
She was the loving wife of Ronald G. Sleight, they wed on May 26, 1962, and they just celebrated their 50th year of marriage. In addition to her husband she is survived by her son James P. Sleight, Port Ewen, a daughter Lara M. Hart, Port Ewen, granddaughter Madison M. Hart, brother Gary Loope and his wife Marsha, Honeoye Falls, NY, several nieces and nephews and best friend Susan Kiernan, Trinity, FL.
Her family and especially her granddaughter were the love of her life.
