Janice M. Skidmore

Janice M. (Longendyke) Skidmore, 85, of South Glens Falls, NY, passed away peacefully at Glens Falls Hospital on Thursday, September 7, 2017. Janice was born in Kingston NY on May 8, 1932. Janice enjoyed shopping, watching her soap operas, taking day trips to Lake George and dancing in her former years. Desserts were Janices pleasure in life. She loved her oreos and milk, ice cream sundaes and coconut cream pie. In Janices lifetime, she owned and operated two taverns. She also owned a home for young adults with special needs for the Eleanor Roosevelt Developmental Service Center. After retirement, she enjoyed working at the Saratoga Racetrack. Janice was a devoted mother, grandmother and GG. Janice had a strong will, was a brave woman and had a feisty personality. Janice always spoke her mind and gave a strong opinion. Even up to her final moments, she did things her way. She was the rock of her family and would do anything for her children and grandchildren, whom she loved very much. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her world. She always wanted to protect them and make sure everyone was taken care of. Janice was the daughter of the late Earl & Mildred (Nickerson) Longendyke. She is survived by her sister Kay Longendyke and uncle, Theron Nickerson both of Kingston NY. Janice is also survived by her five daughters, Kim Conor of Maiden, NC, Karen Backus of South Glens Falls (who was her care giver throughout her illness), Kristine Constable of Warrensburg, Kelly Stone of Selkirk and Karlie Monahan and her husband, James of Queensbury. She is also survived by her granddaughter Jaralyn, whom she raised like a daughter and her grandson Kadyn, who was the son she never had. Janice is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, Jamie Ference, Timothy McCasland Jr., Jaralyn Muzio and her two sons, Brendin & Colton, Alyssa Rose (her mini-me) and her daughter, Cailee (her best friend), Jeana Pestillo, Mallery Hance, Kadyn Granger, Raymond Pappy and his son Payton, Brianna Mooneyhan and Nicolas Hall. Janice is also survived by many great grandchildren and cousins. Private services will be held for Janice at the Ponckhockie Congregational Church, 93 Abruyn St, Kingston. Calling hours for family only will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Monday, September 11th. A private Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 PM at the church. A private interment will follow in Wiltwyck Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made to the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
