Irene E. McInnis

September 12, 1944 — November 17, 2022

Irene E. (Hugger) McInnis, 78, recently of Ten Broeck Commons, originally of the hamlet of Sawkill, died Thursday, November 17, 2022 with her family by her side.  Born September 12, 1944 in Kingston, NY, she was the daughter of the late Fidel and Elisabeth Hugger.

Irene’s generous and charitable spirit touched many lives and organizations.  An active volunteer throughout her life, she served on the boards for Junior Achievement, the Woodstock Chamber Orchestra, and the League of Women Voters, among membership in many other local groups.  She was a dedicated member of the Friends of St. Ann’s Church in Sawkill, the village where she was raised and lived most of her life.

A graduate of the Academy of St. Ursula in Kingston, she remained in close contact with her high school classmates throughout the years, planning luncheons and attending reunions.  These friendships have been passed down to her daughters who feel that they have additional extended family to lean on in times of need.

Irene’s dedication to her business students at Bailey Junior High and Kingston High School was often rewarded in her retirement by warm greetings and stories of success from former students she bumped into around town.

Music, walks, her cats, and her family, especially her grandchildren, brought her the utmost joy.  Trips to Germany to visit her parents’ family there, and annual vacations at Lake George with the Mossl cousins are among the favorite memories she has created for her daughters and their families.

Irene is survived by her daughters Megan Smailer (Chris) and Elisabeth Foster (Jamie), her grandchildren Brendan and Alex Smailer, and Noah and Emilia Foster.  Her cousins Chris Farrell and family, Barbara Claunch, Andrea Noel, Ernie Mossl, Ernst Mossl and their families and many extended family both in the US and Germany. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her dear cousin Anneliese Mossl. She will be forever cherished in the lives of her daughters and their families, as well as her cousins and many friends.
