Helen Frances Battaglia, a long-time resident of Hurley NY, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2023 at Vestal Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born August 14, 1928 in Mohegan Lake, Cortlandt Manor NY, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Burns) Zubradt. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 61 years, Philip, who she married on October 26, 1947. They moved to Peekskill NY, where she held the position of assistant manager of Lofts Candy Store. They later moved to Hurley NY, where they raised a family and built a wonderful life together. Helen was an active community member and held offices on the Benedictine Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Kingston and Hurley Senior Citizens. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, golfing at Wiltwyck Golf Club and traveling with her husband.
Helen is survived by two daughters, Diane Blakely of Hurley NY who was pre-deceased by her husband David, and Brenda Brown of Vestal NY and her husband Dr. Daniel J Brown; six beloved grandchildren, David Blakely and his wife Heather of Hurley NY, Christina Agar and her husband Michael of Saugerties NY, Dr. Daniel P Brown and his wife Dr. Trisha Brown of Windermere FL, Christopher Brown and his wife Colleen of Vestal NY, Michael Brown and his wife Courtney of Vestal NY, and Dr. Richard Brown and his fiancé Cassidy Moro of Longwood FL. Also surviving are 10 great grandchildren, Paige Blakely, Kylie and Shannan Agar, Claire, Conor and Crew Brown, Everly, Penelope and Beckham Brown, and Daniel R. Brown. She was pre-deceased by her 2 brothers, George and Gerald Zubradt, her sister, Marie (Bunny) Scaramellino and her sister-in-law Imogene (Queenie) Zubradt. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Helen’s family expresses their heartfelt gratitude for the compassion, professionalism and dedication of the staff at Vestal Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. This has been her home away from home and we appreciate the security and loving care provided by this loyal team.
Services entrusted to the care of Keyser Funeral and Cremation Service, Kingston, NY, where there will be a private viewing. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, 242 Wall Street Kingston, NY 12401 at 11am on Thursday February 9, 2023, followed by interment in the Hurley Cemetery.
