Harry F. Brown

Harry F. Brown, Jr., 81, of Hurley, died Sunday, February 5, 2012 at home with his family. He was born September 17, 1930 in Liebhardt, NY to the late Harry F. and Beatrice (Gray) Brown. He was married to his loving wife of 49 years, Meta (Weidner) Brown. He was an Ellenville High School graduate. Harry served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army in the 40th Infantry Division, Company F, during the Korean War where he received two Bronze Star Medals. After his service he worked as a carpenter for Local 265 Carpenters Union in Saugerties for many years until his retirement. He was a member of the John F. Jordan Memorial VFW Post # 5086 in Hurley where he served in the honor guard. Harry was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a past member of the Upper Esopus Rod and Gun Club. He also loved spending time in his workshop working on many projects and would often be seen on his John Deere Lawn Mower. In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons; Kenneth C. Schoonmaker and his wife Stacy of Hurley, Harry F. Brown, III and his companion Laurie of Olive Bridge and Jeffrey A. Brown and his companion Stephanie of Hurley, grandchildren, Brandon Schoonmaker and his wife Megan of Saugerties, Logan Schoonmaker of Saugerties and Mackenzie Schoonmaker of Hurley, a great-granddaughter, Harleigh Schoonmaker of Saugerties, a brother, Gordon Brown of Liebhardt, NY as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his siblings, Betty Lou McCauley and Millard Brown. Entrusted to the care of the Luke Keyser of A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave, Kingston, NY 12401 where friends may call on Tuesday from 4 - 7 pm. The service will be held Wednesday at 10:00 am at the funeral home with Rev. Charles Stickley, officiating. Burial will follow in Hurley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice Inc., 34 Broadway, Kingston, NY 12401 or American Cancer Society, Memorial Processing Center, PO Box 7, East Syracuse, NY 13057.
