Giuseppina Aleo (Pina), 89, of Saugerties, passed peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, July 14, 2020 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 19, 1930 in Castrogiovanni (now known as Enna) Sicily, daughter of the late Giuseppe and Ignazia Di Naso Calcagno. She was married to Luigi Aleo, who predeceased her in 2018, for almost 70 years.

Pina and her husband arrived in the United States on November 24, 1955, Thanksgiving Day. They lived in Brooklyn until 1996 when they moved to Saugerties. Pina was an excellent, natural cook - no recipes - famous for her fig cookies and assorted biscotti. She was also an excellent seamstress who would sew Saks Fifth Avenue labels into fancy lounge wear for women.

Pina is survived by daughters Concetta "Connie" Aleo and Inez Aleo, a son Gaetano "Tom" Aleo. Pina was one of eight siblings - four sisters and four brothers. She is now survived by brother Paul Calcagno, Sr. and sister Marie Giambona.

Pina was a woman of simplicity. She loved her husband, children, family and had the pleasure of being "Aunt Pina" to 28 nieces and nephews. Upon her death, one of her nieces stated "she was the best." Her neighbor across the street merely said "she was a good woman."

Pina Aleo: kind, loving and generous...and simple.
