Gary Martin Van Aken, Sr.

Gary Martin Van Aken, Sr., 81, of St. Remy, NY, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026. He was born on January 31, 1945, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, son of the late Martin and Thelma (Hartsough) Van Aken. He was married to Sharon Marie (Sickles) Van Aken.

Gary was a 1963 graduate of Kingston High School and served his country in the US Air Force during Vietnam. Gary later worked as a Substation Electrician at Central Hudson for 35 years until his retirement. He was a member of the St. Remy Reformed Church, Kingston Mendelssohn Club, and he volunteered for many years at the St. Remy Cemetery where he served on the board. Gary was very active and previously enjoyed roller skating and downhill skiing.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Van Aken, his children, Cindy Raftery and her family, Gary Van Aken, Jr. and his family, Matthew Van Aken and his family, Roger Justus, Jr. and his family, Sherry Justus and her family, and James Justus and his family, as well as his sisters, Pamela Sior and Diane Rodriguez and their families.
