Ethel M Sutton

February 21, 1920 — March 2, 2013

Ethel M. Reilly Sutton, born February 21, 1920 in Newburgh to the late Leonard Sr. and May (Gordon) Van Tassell. Our beautiful courageous mother went to join her sons with god on March 2nd 2013 at age 93. She was the wife of the late David E. Reilly, Sr. and the late Lawrence Sutton.




A graduate of Newburgh Free Academy, Mrs. Sutton, was later employed as Postmaster of the Esopus Post Office for nearly 20 years, retiring in October of 1984. Prior to that she worked at Laura Losee Volkswagen of Port Ewen, IBM of Kingston and as the Democratic Clerk for the Ulster County Board of Elections. She had been a member of the Town of Esopus United Methodist Church in Port Ewen, was a member of the National League of Postmasters and the National Association of Postmasters. She was a Life member of Joyce Scherick Post # 1386 VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Fort Myers Beach Florida and had been a very active member of the Ulster County and the Town of Esopus Democratic Parties.




She is survived by her children; Michael K. Reilly of Fort Meyers Beach, FL, Elizabeth "Dolly" Decker of Rifton, Kathleen A. Steeger and her husband Robert of Kingston, Sharon L. Boyd and her husband Richard of North Ridge, CA, 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.




She is predeceased by her sons; Sgt. David E. Reilly, Jr., USMC, Pfc. James R. Reilly, USMC and Sgt. Dennis M. Reilly, USAF.




Entrusted to the care of Luke Keyser of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 216 Broadway, Port Ewen, where friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 7pm. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Wiltwyck Cemetery, Kingston.




In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718
