Eileen R. Lubart

Eileen R. Lubart, 85, of Hurley, NY, passed away Monday, September 14, 2026, at home. She was born on August 1, 1941, in Poughkeepsie, NY, daughter of the late David and Dorothy (Denzig) Krakower. A loving and devoted spouse, mother, and grandmother, she was a model to many for how to be a mom.

She graduated from SUNY Albany where she helped design the new campus and went on to receive her master’s degree in teaching. Eileen championed social justice through her work and volunteer activities, from teaching disadvantaged children to Medicare counseling for the elderly and veterans, to serving on civic improvement committees.

A self-taught sewer who designed fashion, she gave master classes in sewing at Ulster County Community College, and one of her dress creations is part of the Vassar College Costume Institute collection. As a journalist for local newspapers, including the Daily Freeman, Eileen covered stories such as Jessie Jackson’s Presidential campaign and the life of FDR’s cousin, Daisy Suckley. She was an active member of Congregation Ahavath Israel in Kingston.

Eileen is survived by her husband, Barry Lubart, her children, Todd and Ann, her grandchildren, Allan, Elsa, and Sara, and her three siblings.

Arrangements are entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where the funeral service will take place at 10am on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
