Edwin J. Krom, Sr.

September 26, 1926 — November 17, 2017

Edwin J. Krom, Sr., 91, passed away Friday November 17, 2017. Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Irving Krom, Sr. and Addie Mae (Snyder) Krom. On November 19, 1949, Ed married the former Dorothy E. Marks who predeceased him on November 11, 2000, after 50 years of marriage.

He enlisted in the US Navy, serving on the USS Emmons DD457 Navy Destroyer/Mine Sweeper, surviving an attack of 5 Japanese Kamikaze aircraft. Ed was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church serving in many capacities on the church council. Also, a member of the Hendrik Hudson Lodge #0875 F. & A. M. in Red Hook, NY and formerly Kingston Lodge #10 F. & A. M. Ed was a member of American Legion Post #150, Kingston. Ed was a self-employed carpenter/contractor for many years in the Kingston area.

He is survived by his children, Barbara (Charles) Long, Deborah (Gary) Hudler, Carol (Steve) McIntosh, Bonnie (Del) Braswell, and Edwin J. Krom, Jr., 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents and wife, Ed was predeceased by his daughter, Nancy Krom, his great granddaughter, Vanessa Coddington, as well as his siblings, Marion Sahler, Ethel Paulus, Beatrice Albright, and Irving Krom, Jr.

Entrusted to the care of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston, where family and friends may visit on Monday November 20 from 3pm to 7pm. The funeral service will take place at Trinity Lutheran Church, 72 Spring St., Kingston, NY 12401, on Tuesday November 21 at 10am. Internment with full military honors will follow in Mt. Marion Cemetery, Mt. Marion, NY.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the educational scholarship fund sponsored by USS Emmons Association, c/o Thomas Hoffman, Treasurer, 3136 Northampton St., Bethlehem, PA, 18020 or Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Capital Improvement Fund, 72 Spring St., Kingston, NY 12401.
