Doris L. Ennis of Kingston, NY died on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the age of 100. She was born in Prattsville, NY on January 28, 1925, to the late Minnie E. Terry Bouton and Charles W. Bouton and raised by the late Gertrude Bouton Hough. Doris graduated from Kingston High School, attended the Spencer Business School, and worked as a bookkeeper at the Ulster County Welfare Department, before marrying the late Jacob S. Ennis.
Doris was a long time Kingston resident. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. She devoted her life to helping others, albeit family, friends, or through organizations including People's Place and the YWCA. She was always volunteering her time at Saint James United Methodist Church doing things such as helping coordinate the rummage sale, the cookie caper, the soup kitchen and food pantry, as well as many other additional church events. She enjoyed working on all fellowship events. Doris was honored to be one of three volunteers to have the church's brand-new kitchen dedicated to her, a testament to her diligence and selflessness.
Doris is predeceased by her husband of 24 years, Jacob S. Ennis, brother Charles W. Bouton, Jr., stepbrother John Hough and stepsister Roxanne Lees. She is survived by sons Robert (Clare) Ennis, and Gary (Donna) Ennis. She was a loving grandmother of Robin (Greg) Heer, Kevin Ennis, Christopher (Andrea) Ennis, Kyle Ennis, and Sean Ennis, and great-grandmother to Connor Heer, Allison Heer, and Eleanor Ennis. She is also survived by many adoring nieces, nephews, and friends.
