David Emmitt Bloom

David Bloom, 87, of Queensbury, NY, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY surrounded by his family . He was born on March 7, 1939 in Pennsylvania and was the son of the late Herbert Bloom and Anna Posman.

David lived a life filled with family, hard work, laughter, and a deep love of nature and the open road.

David met his first wife, April, as teenagers at Stockbridge School in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. High-school sweethearts, they married in November 1961 at Tavern-on-the-Green in New York City. Together, they built a life and raised their daughter, Tamar, followed a few years later by their son, Jon.

The family first lived in Woodstock, New York, until 1972, when they moved to a farmhouse in Lomontville. April devoted herself to helping others through her work with a Head Start program. She earned a master’s degree in special education, and spent many years as an educator. David and April shared many years together, raising their children in a strong and loving family. Their marriage continued until April passed away in July 2010.

David was a truck driver by trade, but driving was much more than a job to him—it was a way of life. He owned a hauling business and purchased a Peterbilt tractor in 1975, spending years on the road as an owner-operator. Although a shoulder injury eventually ended his trucking career, his love of driving never faded.

On June 2, 2012, David married Linda Haight. Meeting Linda, also a widow, brought renewed happiness, love and warmth back into his life. He was immediately drawn to her exuberance and energy, which brought sunshine to very difficult days. Together, they spent many happy years enjoying each other, making a point of going out to breakfast together as often as possible, driving to different states to visit family or simply enjoying traveling and just taking in the scenery. They shared laughter, adventures, and countless special moments both on and off the road.

Over the years David loved telling jokes, making people laugh, and sharing stories from his youth. He enjoyed cleaning and maintaining his gun collection, collecting all types of tools, reading, and, most of all, stone carving, particularly in granite and marble. He also enjoyed spending time in the woods, where he could appreciate nature and enjoy the quiet outdoors. Those who knew him might remember that he often returned with his gun but without much to show for his outings—a small reflection of his gentle nature.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Linda, at home; his daughter, Tamar (Chris) Ostberg; his son, Jon Bloom; his stepchildren, Cindy (Kevin) Towers and Raymond Haight; and his granddaughters, Lindsay (Leland) Bachmann, Haley Towers, and Lauren Towers. each of whom he affectionately called his “twit” a nickname they will remember with love.

David will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered as one of the kindest souls. His family was fortunate to share in his life, his humor, his stories, and his many adventures. The memories he created with April, Linda, his children, and his grandchildren will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
