Daria Ursula Amato

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Daria Ursula Amato of Kingston NY on January 24th 2026 at the age of 71 years.

Daria will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by all of her surviving family, Helen McArdle of Pearl River, NY. Anne Jardine of Williamsburg, VA. Dorothy Ouzidane of Norfolk, VA. Christopher & Mary Schiable of North Fort Meyers, FL. Jim and Janice Geary of Anderson, SC. John Geary & his Mother Rita also of Anderson, SC. Maureen Geary and Jack of Dunnellon, FL. And all of their children. Daria will also be deeply missed by her lifelong friend of 40 years Janice Lavoie of Burke, VA. She was preceded in death by her Mother Joan Amato (Geary) and her Father Charlie Amato.

Daria’s legacy of compassion, care, and learning will be carried forward by those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her remarkable life will forever be an inspiration, a testament to the power of a determined spirit enthused with generosity and selflessness.

Daria was born in Kingston, NY. On March 11th 1954. From there she moved to the Bronx with her parents where she earned her high school degree from the prestigious Notre Dame School of Manhattan. This sowed the seeds for her future ambitions and educational accomplishments.

Daria would return to Kingston during her teenage years spending the summers with her grandparents. This is where she started her nursing career, as a candy striper at the Benedictine Hospital in Kingston. Later, working for many years at Mt Sinai Hospital in Manhattan in the cardiovascular ICU. Daria spent her whole life in the care and service of others. Among the many milestones of her well-lived life, she earned an A.A.S. degree in nursing from Regent’s College, New York, a B.S.N. As well as an M.S.N. In Cardiovascular Nursing Management, From The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC. In addition she served as Associate Dean and Associate Professor at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) for 19 years. Daria had unwavering compassion and devotion focused on helping those who were in need. She spent 3 months at the University of St. Kitt’s as an instructor, and in 2001 was instrumental in establishing the Nursing & Midwifery Training College in Esiama, Ghana. For which she was honored with an award presented at the the Open Congregation Conference at the United Nations. She subsequently brought nursing students from NOVA to Africa on multiple occasions.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday February 10th 2026 from 10am to 11:30am at Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave. Kingston, NY, 12401. A funeral mass will follow at Noon at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 160 Broadway, Kingston, NY 12401, with burial following at St, Mary’s cemetery, Kingston.

Daria lived her life with grace, determination and purpose, dedicating herself to a lifetime of helping others, and trying to make a lasting impact on lives less fortunate than her own.

We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family and all who mourn Daria’s departure.
