Daniel was born on August 29, 1994, in Albany NY to Philip Sliwa and Maria Braun-Sliwa. He was a lifelong resident of Ulster County. Daniel died unexpectedly on March 19, 2026.
Daniel was a Boy Scout in Troop 66 achieving the rank of Life Scout. He loved Camp Tri-Mount and volunteered as a Counselor in Training (CIT) teaching Wilderness Survival Skills. Growing up he had a cat, Squirt, which was the same age as him and he loved Squirt.
Daniel was Catholic and regularly attended Mass. He and his father often discussed Christianity and the Bible together. He was Graduate of Onteora HS, and received an associates degree in general studies from SUNY Ulster.
Daniel was employed as a handyman working on maintenance for property management firms and also helping apartment managers and homeowners. He had a passion for helping others. He was generous with charity to others in need. Daniel loved playing the guitar, biking, fishing, hiking, hunting, camping, and just being outdoors (sitting in the woods or by the shore listening to the sounds}.
He was a long-time veteran volunteer at the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival which he had attended since he was in a stroller. Daniel especially had a passion for volunteering on the Site Crew setting up the festival and breaking it down at the end. He loved Bluegrass music and the festival, where it was “A Special Family” for him because he was treated as “Family” there. Daniel also volunteered for community organizations.
Daniel is survived by his father Philip, his stepmother Suzanne, and many relatives residing all over the country. He was pre-deceased by his mother Maria, his grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, April 11th 2026 at 11:00 am at St John’s Catholic Church 12 Holly Hills Drive, Woodstock NY. A luncheon in the parish hall will follow.
