Carole M (Diehl) Smith. Carole Smith passed away peacefully on March 23, 2023, following a short illness. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Richard (Dick) Smith. Born on September 26, 1937 in Kingston, NY, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow and Marie (Duffner) Diehl. She resided in Kingston, NY until June 2018 when she moved to Macungie, PA.
She started her career at NY Telephone Company as a long-distance operator in 1954, with time at IBM, Britt’s, Ulster Country ARC, Tiger and several doctors in the Kingston area. She retired in 1997. In retirement, she was a member of the Kingston Powerboat Association, the Kingston Garden Club, and enjoyed volunteering at the Friends of Historic Kingston Society. She was also a member of the Lower Macungie, PA Garden Club.
Carole is survived by her brother Woodrow (Noreen) Diehl of Kingston, NY and will be lovingly remembered by her children Richard (Karen) Smith Jr, Peter (Ellen) Smith and Leslie (Chris) Cooper, her four grandchildren Richard (Justyna) Smith III, Amanda (Brent) Guerard, Sarah (Neil) Bryant and Julia (Corey) Mallard, three great grandchildren in addition to many nieces, nephews, and friends along the way.
She loved photography, her rose and flower gardens and her cat, Emily. She always had a warm heart, time for listening and kind words for those she met on her journey through life.
Carole wanted everyone to know, "Long after I am gone, please remember that my family and friends enriched my life with love and genuine caring. I was blessed with so much love from all who crossed my path over a lifetime. Thank you everyone.”
Entrusted to the care of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Friday March 31, 2023 from 5pm to 7pm and Saturday April 1, 2023 from 10am to 11am. The funeral service will take place at 11am at the funeral home on Saturday April 1, 2023, followed by burial in Hurley Cemetery, Hurley, NY.
