Beverly Finnegan, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, passed away on Sunday November 10, 2024 at the age of 84, surrounded by her family. Beverly was born on February 10, 1940 in Binghamton NY. She is survived by her husband, Frank Finnegan, her daughter Katherine Finnegan and son in law David Gilinsky, her daughter in law Erin Finnegan, her 6 grandchildren: Molly Gilinsky Cross (Jack Cross), Laura Gilinsky Rafael (Billy Rafael), Bridget Finnegan (Ben Simpson), Jack Gilinsky (Geneva Patterson), Michael Bradley Finnegan, Jr. and Francis John Finnegan, and 2 great grandchildren, Hayven Patterson Gilinsky and Noa Gilinsky Cross. Also included is her “adopted” Horowitz Family and her sister in law Faith Sim.
Beverly was predeceased by her son, Michael Bradley Finnegan, her parents, Michael and Helen Sim, and her brother, Robert Sim.
Beverly and Frank married in 1961 and lived in Los Angeles, Syracuse and Plattsburgh before moving to Kingston in 1967. Beverly received a BA from SUNY/New Paltz and also did graduate study in Public Administration. In 1978 she began her career with the American Cancer Society. She worked for the American Cancer Society for 33 years. She began her career as a Program Director then quickly rose to Executive Director and then Regional Vice President for Ulster, Putnam, Dutchess, Orange, and Sullivan Counties.
She also held many Community Board positions including most recently the SUNY/Ulster Foundation Board, as well as Woodland Pond Senior Living Community. Beverly was very hands on with the Michael B Finnegan Golf Classic: a charity golf tournament that benefits local cancer care through Health Alliance.
Beverly was a warm, loving person who attracted long time relationships from every facet of her life. Her greatest joy was her family. She and her husband Frank have been married for 63 years. They loved to travel with their family to warm, sunny destinations. One of Beverly’s favorite pastimes was looking for seashells at the beach and dining in restaurants “with a view”. A stone’s throw away from the backyard, Beverly and her husband Frank enjoyed spending time at Wiltwyck Country Club, which was considered a home away from home for the Finnegan’s.
A private graveside service will take place on Wednesday at St. Bernards Cemetery.
A Funeral Mass will take place 11am, Saturday November 16, at St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 242 Wall Street, Kingston NY. A luncheon will immediately follow at Wiltwyck Country Club, 404 Steward Lane, Kingston, NY.
