Bert Parsons

Bert Harold Parsons, 91, of Sawkill, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at the Barnwell Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Valatie, NY. He retired to Sawkill in 1982 after 32 years teaching mathematics and computer science at Mineola High School in Mineola, NY. Bert graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Arts and earned Masters degrees from Union College and the State Teacher's College in Albany. He was a member of the ACLU, Public Citizen, Common Cause and the New York State Retired Teachers Association. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Gerdts Parsons, four children, Cynthia Van Der Werf (Paul) of Princeton, NJ; Craig Parsons (JoAnne) of Saratoga Springs; Eric Parsons (Joan) of Seaford, NY and Lisa Muller (Doug) of Hamden, CT, Seven Grandchildren, Deva Fagan, David Van Der Werf, Melanie, Andrew, William Muller, Kristen Garvey and Michael Duquette. Reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave, on Sunday, May 6, 2012 from 11-12 PM. A Funeral Service will then be held at 12:00 PM at the funeral home.
