Barbara A. Scharschu

Barbara A. Scharschu, 91, formerly of Hurley, NY, passed away peacefully with her family on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Golden Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kingston, NY. Born February 19, 1935, in Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Zita (Dueppe) Herzog. She married Gerard John Scharschu on May 19, 1955. 

She worked in manufacturing her whole life, starting at Ferroxcube. After having her children, Barbara returned to work and became Production Manager at Marpac Industries in Kingston NY, where she spent most of her working career, working alongside her sister Dee. Later, before retiring in 2000, she was a Production Supervisor at Simulaids in Woodstock, NY. She enjoyed flower gardening, reading, doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles, bingo, playing mini-golf and hanging out in the pool with her grandchildren. Her sisters and she, along with her niece Nancy, took bus rides to many shows in NYC, a casino or two, and had fun at birthday lunches and Christmas gift exchanges. 

The greatest love of her life was being a mother and grandmother. She dedicated her heart and soul into both. Her family meant everything to her. The Friday night hot dog/beanie roasts and Sunday family dinners were always a blast. Her potato salad was legendary. Time spent together at the Hudson River and Jersey shore were special to her as well. 

Survivors include Daughter Linda Chorvas (husband Jaime) of Woodstock NY, Son Gerard John (Jerry) Scharschu Jr. (wife Jeanne) of Kingston NY, Grandchildren Shannon Rice of Yonkers, NY, Kyle Scharschu of Accord, NY, and Zhoe Scharschu of Kingston, NY, along with many nieces, nephews, dear in-laws and friends. Along with her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of 25 years, her siblings Rita McCullough, Arthur" Don" Herzog, William Herzog, Robert Herzog, Dolores Fiore, Charles Herzog, Mary Sarro, and Carol Hughes. 

Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral and Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave, Kingston NY where family and friends may visit on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 11am to 1pm with the funeral service taking place at 1pm. Burial will follow at Hurley Cemetery, Hurley NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's name can be made to the Alzheimer's Association at Alzheimer's Association
