Almuth Gumbel

Almuth Gumbel, 84, of Rhinebeck, NY, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025 at Baptist Home at Brookmeade in Rhinebeck, NY. She was born on June 17, 1941 in Magdeburg, Germany and was the daughter of the late Hermann Krueger and Anna Heinrich.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Gumbel whom she met in 1958 in her home country of Germany, while he was stationed there with the US Army. She moved to the United States in 1960, where they lived in Queens until they moved to West Hurley in 1986. She will always be known as the family story teller. She had a knack for remembering details of things that happened in her life, although we all have heard our own versions of those stories. She loved her puzzles and word searches. She will be missed and always loved by many. She will always be our CGL (if you know you know).

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law George and Eileen Gumbel of Saugerties, NY and her daughter and son-in-law Dawn and Sandro Venturi of Stewart Manor, Long Island. She was loved by her 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
