Dr. Aeyoung Lee Kim, a devoted physician who made her home and career in Woodstock, NY, passed away peacefully at HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston, NY, surrounded by family. Dr. Kim was 90-years-old and died on Monday, January 5, 2026 following a stroke.
Born and raised in Korea, Dr. Kim was educated at Seoul National University and completed her medical training and early practice in Pittsburgh, PA and Buffalo, NY before settling in Woodstock in 1969. Dr. Kim worked in the emergency room at Benedictine Hospital, now HealthAlliance, and later opened a private practice on the first floor of her home, where she cared for generations of local families. As a rural doctor who still made house calls, she specialized in internal medicine and was known for her honest and straightforward bedside manner.
Outside of medicine, she found joy in gardening and cooking. A gifted host, she welcomed visitors with warmth and ensured no one left her home without a generous serving of her Korean dishes. Her hospitality was as much a part of her legacy as her medical service.
Dr. Kim is survived by her four adult children and three grandchildren. Her husband Kongsoo Kim died in 2022.
A burial service will take place at the Town of Woodstock Cemetery on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 1pm. A reception will follow at Overlook United Methodist Church, 233 Tinker St, Woodstock, NY. A separate memorial service is being planned for April 2026.
