Sandra Lewis, 74, of Craryville, died December 21, 2012 at Livingston Hills Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Born in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of the late Albert A. & Gertrude Glasser Lewis and Brother Irving "Bud" Lewis.
Sandy had a great wit and sense of humor and enjoyed creating laughter with her original stories. Her letters were magnificent little master-pieces and people treasured them.
Sandy was an avid reader and after our father died in 1959, My Mother and Sandra and I took a trip to Spain where Sandra met the love of her life, Alan whose family owned a resort hotel in Algeciras, Spain. There we met Ernest Hemingway and Sandra let him know that she had read everything he had written and that she was a great "fan". He put a little black stone, from the beach, in Sandy's hand and said "here is a lucky stone".
All that knew Sandy loved her. She knew how to make friends and family feel welcome with her generosity, kindness and gift of wit and humor. Sandy, you will be with us always.
Sandra is survived by her sister Susan Williams of Craryville, NY, her cousin Larry Broutman of Chicago, IL, nephew, David Williams and nephews, Laurie Lewis, David Lewis, and Robert Lewis.
A memorial service took place at Temple Israel in Catskill on December 26, 2012. Interment will be private.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to National Parkinson Foundation Gift Processing Center, PO Box 5018 Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018 or Friends of Animals, 777 Post Road, Darien, CT 06820.
