John L. Costello

John L. Costello, of Penstock Lane, Lake Katrine died Saturday, November 8, 2003 at Kingston Hospital. He was 84. He was born in East Kingston on December 24, 1919, a son of the late Louis and Josephine M. Amato Costello. Mr. Costello served in the US Army during WW II in the European Theater of Operations as a Master Sergeant. He married Theresa Ferguell on September 15, 1946. A US Post Office employee for 33 years, Mr. Costello was an accountant in Kingston for 30 years and then a report manager in Poughkeepsie for 3 years. He retired in 1979 and did volunteer tax preparation for VITA, Kingston. Since 1959, Mr. Costello has owned and operated John Costello General Insurance. A parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church, he previously served as treasurer to the Town of Ulster Seniors and belonged to the Leisure Club. He was a member of A.A.R.P. Three sisters Frances Costello, Lillian Nagy and Mary D. Cole and two brothers James and Frank Costello, all died previously. Beloved husband of Theresa Ferguell Costello; loving father of Laureen Calautti and her husband Michael; Allan Costello and his wife Pamela; brother of the late Frances Costello, Lillian Nagy, Mary D. Cole, James and Frank Costello; grandfather of Matthew, Carl and Melissa Calautti, Laura, Emily and Rachel Costello. Five great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews also survive. Reposing at Simpson – Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Monday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral will be Tuesday at 9:15 AM from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church at 10:00 AM. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
