Genevieve Benicase, 95, of Kingston, passed away after a long illness at Ten Broeck Commons Center for Rehabilitation in Lake Katrine, New York on January 9, 2021.
She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Hutter, and had four siblings who predeceased her, named George, John, Frances and Edna. Genevieve grew up on a 90 acre farm. Her father raised chickens, and was also an accomplished pastry chef in Manhattan. Her marriage to Michael Benicase, who predeceased her in 2010, gave her the excitement of entering into a very large Italian family with plenty of parties and gourmet food.
Genevieve was devoted to her daughter, Cynthia Sinharoy. She gave her creativity and a quest for knowledge. Genevieve was a talented seamstress who could make dresses and doll clothes without the aid of a pattern. Genevieve loved going to the ocean to search for quartz crystals. She also was never afraid of trying out exotic recipes, and was known for her succulent coconut cake with rich chocolate fudge icing.
Genevieve adored Tai, her Bengal cat. She spent a lot of time increasing the cat's comprehension of new words and new tricks.
Genevieve was a parishioner of St. Catharine Laboure Church in Lake Katrine.
Special thanks to all the staff at Ten Broeck Commons who gave exceptional care and their compassion to Genevieve.
Due to the Public health concerns for the Corona Virus (COVID 19), memorial services will be private.
Simpson-Hammerl Funeral Home is honored to assist the family of Genevieve with the arrangements.
